Planning a Smile Makeover Consultation in Dallas
Veneer Lounge is a cosmetic dentistry studio at The Star in Frisco, about 30 miles north of downtown Dallas, and smile makeover consultations are where every case starts. Dr. Shaggy and Dr. Tania, who were both born in Dallas, run each consultation themselves. You get a digital preview of your new smile and a written plan before anyone touches a tooth. A consultation shouldn’t feel like a sales meeting where you leave with a quote and not much else, and ours is built so it doesn’t.
Key takeaways
- The consultation takes about an hour. It includes an exam of your teeth and gums, an iTero scan, a smile simulation and a treatment plan that lists how many veneers you need and the timeline.
- An in-person consultation is $250 and covers an x-ray, an iTero wellness scan, the simulation and an accurate quote. A $75 virtual consultation is there if you’d rather talk it through from home first.
- Most smile makeovers take about three weeks from consultation to Seat Day, and veneers start at $800 per tooth for minimal-prep.

Where can I get a smile makeover consultation if I live in Dallas?
At Veneer Lounge, 3800 Gaylord Pkwy #790 in Frisco. It’s at The Star, a short drive up the Dallas North Tollway, and patients come to us from Dallas and all over DFW. The whole practice is set up around porcelain veneers, and the two doctors who plan your smile are the same two who place it. That matters more than people expect, which we get into below.
If you want to read up on the doctors first, here’s Dr. Shaggy and Dr. Tania, plus a summary of our credentials and technology.
What happens at a Veneer Lounge smile makeover consultation?
It goes roughly in this order:
- You tell us what bothers you about your smile. Color, a chip, a gap, or just how your teeth look in photos.
- One of the doctors checks your teeth, gums and bite. Veneers placed over gum inflammation or an uneven bite tend to fail early, so this part isn’t skipped.
- We take an iTero digital scan and photos of your face and smile.
- The doctor builds a smile simulation with you, so you can see the proposed shape, length and shade on your own face.
- You leave with a treatment plan: how many veneers, the timeline, any prep work needed first, and the cost.
Then you go home and think about it. Nobody expects a yes on the day.
What should a trusted veneer consultation include?
Facial and smile photography, not just a quick look in the mouth. The dentist needs to see how your teeth sit against your lips and smile line, at rest and when you talk, because veneers are designed around the whole face. After that comes the bite and gum check, a scan, and a real conversation about what you want changed.
The thing to insist on is a preview. Without one, you’re guessing at the result until the veneers are already bonded, and by then it’s too late to change the shape or shade. You should walk out with a plan you can actually look at, not just a number on an estimate.
How does digital smile design shape the plan?
Digital smile design maps your facial proportions, lip line and symmetry, then proposes a veneer shape, length and size for your face. A flat 2D photo edit and a 3D simulation built from an iTero scan are not the same thing. A photo edit can make almost anyone look good on screen. It doesn’t show how your lips move or how light hits the teeth.
The point is to make the big decisions (tooth length, shape, how symmetrical the arch looks) before anything is made, instead of after. Once a porcelain veneer is fired, reshaping it is limited. There’s more on this on our digital smile design page for Dallas patients.
How do you pick a veneer style that suits your face?
Once the rough design is there, the real choices are brightness, tooth shape, length and how much natural translucency to keep at the edges. Rounded corners soften a smile. Squared edges look more defined, and on the wrong face they look fake. A bright, perfectly uniform set looks great in photos and can look disconnected in person, next to your skin tone and lip color.
Each of our veneers is handcrafted, so shade and shape can be adjusted tooth by tooth. Skin tone and face shape should drive the shade more than a shade chart does. Getting this step wrong is the most common reason people end up unhappy with veneers that are otherwise well made.
What makes a private, luxury veneer consultation different?
Mostly three things: privacy, not being rushed, and seeing the same doctor the whole way through.
A smile makeover involves close-up photos of your face and a fairly personal conversation about what you don’t like about it. That’s not a talk most people want to have in an open bay. At Veneer Lounge you’re in a private dental suite, with Netflix, aromatherapy, warm towels, neck pillows, weighted blankets and something to drink. Those sound like extras, but they get used, because Prep Day can be a long appointment. Nitrous oxide is available too.
Continuity is the part people underrate. When the doctor who designed your smile is the one who preps your teeth and places the veneers, the shade, bite and shape decisions stay consistent from start to finish. A hand-off partway through is one of the common reasons a final result doesn’t match the preview you approved.
What should I bring, and what should I ask before booking?
Bring photos of smiles you like (a celebrity, a friend, something from Instagram) so we can see the direction you mean. “Brighter” means very different things to different people. If you have recent x-rays or dental records, bring those too, along with a list of any medications.
Questions worth asking any practice, including us:
- Will I see a 3D simulation of my smile, or just a photo edit?
- Who designs the veneers, and who places them?
- How much enamel will be removed? Am I a candidate for no-prep or minimal-prep veneers?
- How long should they last, and what do I need to do to look after them?
- What happens if I don’t like the preview?
If you’re also thinking about replacing old veneers, our veneer replacement page for Dallas patients covers how that consultation differs.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a veneer consultation cost at Veneer Lounge?
The in-person consultation is $250. It includes a one-on-one discussion with your doctor, an x-ray, an iTero wellness scan, a simulation of how you’ll look with veneers and an accurate financial quote. A $75 virtual consultation is also available.
How long is the consultation?
About an hour.
Can I see what my new smile will look like before committing?
Yes. Every consultation includes a smile simulation built from an iTero scan and digital smile design software. If you want changes to the shape, length or shade, they’re made at this stage, before anything is fabricated.
How many visits does a full smile makeover take?
Three main visits: the consultation, Prep Day (your teeth are prepared and you get temporary veneers) and Seat Day (the finished veneers are placed). A typical smile makeover takes about three weeks from consultation to Seat Day. Cases that need bite correction or other treatment first can take longer.
Do my teeth need to be straight before I get veneers?
Usually not. In most cases veneers alone get the result you want. If your teeth are significantly crowded, we’d recommend straightening them with Invisalign first and placing veneers afterward.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
With proper care, 10 to 15 years or longer. You’ll get a retainer after treatment to protect them, and a night guard helps if you grind your teeth.
Is financing available?
Yes. We accept most PPOs, cash, check and credit card, plus Cherry, Sunbit, CareCredit and Proceed Finance.
